The Burntisland alumina plant was first established in 1917 to produce alumina for aluminium metal production. In later years the factory switched its products to chemical applications. This is a view taken from the Milled Hydrate Silos, looking towards Micronised Alumina silos, the Hydrate Drier building and the Calcined Alumia kiln building. I took the photo in the early morning on a summer nightshift, sometime in the 1990s. The factory closed down in 2002 and the site is now occupied by a housing estate.
